The Episcopal Academy Churchmen hosted the #3 ranked La Salle College HS Explorers in today’s electrifying non-league boys’ lacrosse contest.
Episcopal Academy started the 2013 season ranked 8th on the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings. An unfortunate series of games landed the Churchmen at (1-3) in their first four games and dropping to 43rd on the rankings. However, the Churchmen have seemed to right the ship, as last week they crushed Downingtown East 8-1, and this week they pulled a huge upset against La Salle winning 8-2 and are now (3-3)!
Episcopal Academy demonstrated their dominating defensive ability for the duration of today’s game led by fellow Churchmen Kevin Gayhardt. The Churchmen seemed to be multiplying on the field as the La Salle Explorers failed to gain any consistency early on, falling behind 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Matters continued to get worse for the Explorers as the Churchmen continued their offensive assault on La Salles’ goalie, finding the back of the net two more times heading to the locker room with a 5-1 Churchmen lead.
The Churchmen came out of the locker room keeping the tempo high on offense, and playing a solid defense, and did not allow a goal to the Explorers till the fourth quarter.
Needless to say Episcopal Academy dominated in every facet of the game, notching a total of six ground balls, two caused turnovers from UPenn bound Kevin Gayhardt, and dominated face offs 13 of 14. Most of the Episcopal offense stemmed from Curtis Zappala and Dutch Buckley who each had two goals in today’s contest
La Salle Explorer Matt R. was able to put two shots past Episcopal net minder Colin Reder, but was unable to decipher the Churchmen’s defensive strategy falling in an 8-2 defeat.
